Project:

The BBC Hardware (now known as Bunnings & Bunnings Warehouse) employee awareness program was designed to meet the specific needs of new employees. The module was designed to shorten the amount of time it took for a new employee to get up to speed on issues such as basic business concepts, how BBC Hardware came into being and how it is currently structured. Also, the very necessary areas of company values and company rules were covered, as was a brief discussion on the BBC product lines.

Our Brief:

  • build an interactive module to help new employees understand how BBC Hardware operates - provide information on the company, its background, its values, its product lines, its organisation, its employee rules and procedures, customer service policies, etc. Provide retention checking and interactions which will help employees work with the training material productively.
  • let our CEO do a narrated slide show, give us an interactive organisation chart, a payslip employees can investigate, and a survey for new employees - this module has to be engaging & entertaining to our employees, but it also needs to have a bit of a personality, and it needs to check continuously whether employees are "getting it."
  • a lot of information changes here each month - provide a low-cost way to maintain this information - all "dynamic" data (that information which can change frequently) must be held outside the module so that our training administrator can easily change it.
  • provide an easy to use navigational structure - let employees move around the module as they wish, but only after they have gone through each lesson - after that, let them review in any sequence they wish.
  • deliver the orientation product with audio narration support - if employees have a sound card present, play the audio files - otherwise do not.
  • assessment - provide a formal assessment after employees finish the module.
  • results analysis - the module needs to output a file which can be imported into a dBASE database already used within the organisation.

Interesting Bits:

  • our favourite part - the CEO slide show, working with Bob Howarth and David Reynolds.
  • the opening music - a real toe-tapper.
  • employee rules and regulations - a bit of a game to keep things interesting…
